Nudi To Unicode is a free, open-access tool that converts Kannada text originally typed in legacy Nudi fonts into standard Unicode. Every conversion runs directly in your browser — no uploads, no servers, no waiting.
The problem we solve
Decades of Kannada literature, government records, academic papers, and newsroom archives were produced with Nudi, a popular pre-Unicode keyboard and font system for Kannada. When those documents are opened today without the original font installed, the text appears as garbled Latin characters. Nudi To Unicode bridges that gap by remapping every legacy glyph to its correct Unicode codepoint, giving the text a second life that works everywhere.
How the converter works
Our engine maps each Nudi font character to its equivalent Unicode Kannada codepoint, handling the non-standard byte sequences that make simple find-and-replace approaches fail.
Kannada script includes conjunct consonants (ottakshara), arkavattu forms, and dependent vowel signs that require careful reordering during conversion. Nudi To Unicode handles these automatically.
Your text never leaves your device. The entire conversion pipeline executes in JavaScript inside your browser tab, ensuring complete privacy.
